How to Enable MSSQL Backup Restore to Mapped Network Drive

Share this article :

By default, you won’t be able to see the mapped drive if you do backup and restore using the Microsoft SQL Server. You will need to make the mapped drive “visible” before executing the backup and restore task.

1. First of all, you will need to map the required drive from your Microsoft SQL Server host.

Map Network Drive

2. Next, active the xp_cmdshell server configuration option.

EXEC sp_configure 'show advanced options', 1;
GO
RECONFIGURE;
GO
EXEC sp_configure 'xp_cmdshell',1
GO
RECONFIGURE
GO

3. Finally, execute below command to define the mapped network drive from the step number 1 above.

EXEC XP_CMDSHELL 'net use <MAPPED_NETWORK_DRIVE>'

4. Open your SQL Management Studio and you will able to see the mapped network drive.
