You can use one of the below methods to disable the Internet Explorer new tab functionality.

Internet Explorer Tab

Method 1

** Applicable for current user

Open the Internet Properties. (from the Control Panel or search “Internet Properties” from the Start Menu). Go to General tab. Look for tabs – Change how webpages are displayed in tabs and click the Tabs button.

Deselect the option, “Enable Tabbed Browsing (requires restarting Internet Explorer)”. Select OK and restart the Internet Explorer.

Method 2

** Applicable for all users

Open Local Group Policy Editor. Search for the following,

Local Computer Policy > User Configuration > Administrative Templates
> Windows Components > Internet Explorer

On the right panel, double click on “Turn off tabbed browsing” and select the option Enabled.
