In the SAP system, there are 3 types of parameter profiles as below, which you can obtain the information from transaction code RZ10.
So, which profile will you choose for parameter changes or add? Basically, you may follow the rule, if single instance (application server) – you may choose Instance Profile. If your SAP system have multiple instances – then you should go for Default Profile.
Below example is executed on Instance Profile.

To Change SAP Parameter
1. In transaction code RZ10, select Extended maintenance. From Profile selection, choose Instance Profile. Then, click on Change.
2. On the next page, you can scroll to find the parameter or use CTRL + F to search the parameter. As an example, you want to change the value of parameter login/min_password_uppercase.
3. Change the parameter to a new value and from the bar menu, click on Copy. You will get a message, “The changed profile was transferred”. Now, click Back and you will route back to the initial screen of transaction code RZ10.
4. Click on Save and select Yes to below message.
5. Select Yes again.
Profile SID_DVEBMGS00_HOSTNAME (version 0000xx) saved and activated
The effect of activating a profile is simply that the profile is stored
at operating system level (see administration data). For the profile to
take effect for a particular application server, you have to restart
the application server.
6. Now, restart your SAP system to activate the changes!
To Add SAP Parameter
1. The steps will be the same as above. For new parameter, you need to click on “Create Parameter”.
2. Enter the parameter name and value. Follow the same steps to copy, save and restart the SAP system to activate the changes.
