By default, the notifications dialog box is disabled in the SAP system. You can enable the function by following steps.
Open the SAP Logon and go to Options.

Select the Notifications under the Interaction Design. Select all the options under the Messages.
• Beep at message
• Show success messages in a dialog box
• Show warning messages in a dialog box
• Show error messages in a dialog box

As result, anytime you hit an error, warning or successfully completed some task on SAP – You will get the message box. Example, you are executing a non-existence transaction code – The notification dialog box will pop up and shows the following message.

Another example, the message will also pop up if you are listing out the jobs (transaction code SM37) which are not match with the selection criteria.

Personally, I have set this function to disable! I guess this function is not really useful.
