
Symptom
You are doing an upgrade of Oracle patches using the OPatch utility. The activity is running on Windows operating system environment.

Out of sudden, below error coming out,
ApplySession failed during prerequisite checks: Prerequisite check "CheckActiveFilesAndExecutables" failed. System intact, OPatch will not attempt to restore the system OPatch failed with error code = 74
Solution
Open the Windows Services program (from Start > search for services.msc). Look for Oracle services which are still running and do stop them! Once stopped, you can re-run the Oracle patches again.
