
Before you proceed with this activity, please ensure that you have update the printer information in SPAD. Please refer to this article, How to Update Printer Information in SPAD for further details.
If you have completed the above activity, you can refer to below steps on installing the new device type in SPAD.
In this example, we are going to show you the steps on installing the device type for Toshiba Tec printer. The steps will be similar for any other printer brand / manufacturer.
In the transaction code SPAD, create new output device and enter all the information required. Click on Device Type Selection.

Select the manufacturer’s name (in this example, Toshiba Tec) and click on Show Printers.
Double click on the printer from the list available. You will see the remark of “not exist on the system” for device type, which mean – there is no device type available in your SAP system.
Double click on the Reference SAP Note and it will automatically launch the SAP note. Read through the SAP note and go to the attachments area to download the ZIP files. Extract the ZIP files and you will get the .PRI format file.

Now, click on the truck icon to install the device type.

Follow the installation instruction as below,
If you have already downloaded device types from SAP Notes, click OK button. If you haven’t, download device types as follows:
- Click Cancel button to go back to the wizard screen.
- Select a printer.
- Right click on an SAP Note number.
- Select “Display Note”. Then an internet browser opens up.
- Click “Attachments”. Then download a required file to a local PC.
- Unzip the file on the PC if it contains several device types.
- Repeat steps 2 to 6 for required device types.
- Then, come back here to install device types.

Click Next.

Locate the extracted .PRI file.

Click Next.

Click Next.

Click OK.

Click on Save.

Click on OK.

Maintain the transport number.

Click on Finish. Yes, you have successfully installed the new device type. You can use the new and maintain the device type accordingly.
