SE92 – Edit System Log & Security Audit Log Event IDs

The transaction code SE92 can be use to maintain the message definitions for the System Log (SM21) and the Security Audit Log (SM20).

A message is uniquely defined by its message area (two-character value) and the message number (single character, values from 0-9 and A-Z). Audit log messages and system log messages have separate name ranges for the message areas.

On the initial screen of the transaction, you can search by message type, message ID, and elements of the short text of the messages. When checking the translation of messages, it is useful to select all languages.

The message selection displays the most important information for existing messages. You can switch to change mode by choosing the “Display/Change” button. If you choose the “Detailed List” button, the message numbers that are still free are shown in green in the list. You can return to the initial list by choosing the “Compact List” button.

You can navigate to the detailed view/maintenance by double-clicking. You can use the check button to check the properties of a message with regard to whether they are consistent and can be displayed. This check is automatically performed when a modified message is saved.

Note:

SE92 messages are transported with the transport object SYAG. When the messages are transported, all messages of a message area are transferred, including the documentation. It is not possible to transport an individual message.

Messages are Development Workbench objects. To change SAP messages, you therefore need to request an object registration key (SSCR procedure).
