gw/logging: Enable gateway logging

Short text

Enable gateway logging

Parameter Description

You can use this parameter to log certain gateway activities in a separate file.

The simplest way to make this setting is using the Gateway Monitor, transaction SMGW.

Goto -> Expert Functions -> Logging

You can make all of the necessary settings on this selection screen.

The settings you can make include the following:

File Name

You can use special characters in the name of the log file; these are overwritten accordingly at system runtime. These include

  • %y – Year
  • %m – Month
  • %d – Day
  • %h – Hour
  • %t – Minute
  • %s – Second

The name of the log file is set under the subparameter LOGFILE.

Log Events

Log entries can be written to the following events:

  • T – Network
  • X – Start/stop/signals
  • S – Security
  • s – Rejected accesses only
  • Z – Rejected accesses without rules
  • M – Monitor commands
  • P – Dynamic parameter changes
  • O – Open RFC connections
  • C – RFC actions (open, close, send, receive)
  • E – External programs
  • R – Registered programs
  • V – Create/delete conv IDs

The events are set under the subparameter ACTION.

Switch Criteria

New log files are created with a time-controlled switch.

The following times are available:

  • hour – Hourly
  • day- Daily
  • week – Weekly
  • month – Monthly
  • year – Yearly

The new log file is created at the start of a new hour, day, week, month, or year.

The maximum file size is also a switch criterion. Provided the maximum size is not exceeded, a new log file is created.

You can also specify to continue writing to the old log file, rather than generating a new one.

You set the time-controlled switch criteria under the subparameter SWITCHTF; you can specify the maximum size of the file under MAXSIZEKB.

FILEWRAP=on specifies that files can be rewritten.
