INS (insert) & OVR (overwrite) Modes & How to Switch the Modes in SAP

If you noticed at the right bottom of the SAP screen – you will see the word of INS and OVR. The INS is referring to INSERT and OVR is referring to OVERWRITE.

SAP INS & OVR Mode

• INSERT:
The INSERT mode is to enter data between existing data. Any data to the right of the cursor moves to the right as you type.

Example, you type something on SAP screen, ABCDEF and you want to put number 9 in the middle of ABCDEF. So, if you are in INSERT mode, the result will be ABC9DEF.

• OVERWRITE:
The OVERWRITE mode is to enter data. You type over any data to the right of the cursor.

Example, you type something on SAP screen, ABCDEF and you want to put number 9 in the middle of ABCDEF. So, if you are in OVERWRITE mode, the result will be ABC9EF.

How to Switch to INS / OVR

Just click on the INS / OVR from the SAP screen. Alternatively, you can press the keyboard button, INS / insert (depends on keyboard type)

  1. Hi All

Actually, with SAP Hana, I’m using theme “Quartz black”, so the button INS/OVR is not available.
For this way you can use keyboard shortcut “windows Button” + “insert”. That way will change from INS to OVR/ INS to OVR automatically.
