SAP ECC6 EHP6 Upgrade Steps

Scenario

The objective for the activity is to upgrade the current SAP ECC6 EHP0 to SAP ECC6 EHP6.

Prerequisites

1. Read the official guide from SAP!

2. Ensure the hardware capacities (RAM, CPU, Disk Space) are good to serve the EHP6 upgrade. Prepare the big space for DIR_EPS_ROOT directory.

3. Check the SAP PAM (Product Availability Matrix) for the database, operating system and kernel compatibility.

4. Using the SAP MOPZ (Maintenance Optimize), rectify the SAP components (including SUM) for the EHP6. You may need to install the SAP Download Manager to download all the files required.

5. Generate the stack.xml file.

6. Ensure the SAP kernel (tp, R3trans) is updated.

7. Oracle 11g database parameters are set to met the SAP’s recommendation.

8. Database statistics are performed before the EHP6 upgrade kick start.

EHP6 Upgrade Activity

1. Launch the SUM (Software Update Manager).

2. Key in the username and password for Administrator.

3. The information detected from the SAP system.

4. Specify the user credentials for SIDADM.

5. Locate the stack.xml file.

6. Enter the Keyword from the SAP Note 1926261.

Once you clicked on Next, the following screen will show you the 8 stages of Initialization, Extraction, Configuration, Checks, Preprocessing, Execution, Postprocessing and Finalization. You will need to go through all the 8 stages to have the EHP6 upgrade complete!

Phase 5.1 Initialization

1. No action required on Initialization stage. Normally, it will take you only seconds to complete. So, just click Next once the status is completed.

Phase 5.2 Extraction

1. You are now in Extraction phase.

2. Enter the password for SAP user DDIC, operating system account SAPServiceSID and DB user SYSTEM.

3. SUM will do the version check.

4. In our case, the current SAP system is in non-unicode mode. As our objective is only to upgrade the EHP. So, we just select NO.

5. The summary of Extraction phase. The summary will notify if there are any manual / failed actions required from your end. If everything is okay, just click the close button.

6. The next screen will prompted you the completed status of Extraction phase. Click Next to jump to other phase.

Phase 5.3 Configuration

1. You are now in Configuration phase.

2. Choose the main configuration of the tool. In this example, we have selected Single System. Thus, it will going to be longer downtime and no shadow instance or no shadow instance running exclusively. [The configurations sets are based / rely on your hardware specs)

3. You can adjust the values accordingly but it should reliable with the hardware specifications. Else, use the default values.

4. Enter the IS keyword based given SAP Note.

5. Enter a Customer Change Request that you want to include into the procedure. If you do not want to include (or did not have any change request), just leave the field empty.

6. Enter modification adjustment (if you have any) to automatically maintain the modifications in the SAP system during the procedure.

7. The Configuration phase summary.

8. The Configuration phase is now complete.
