How to Create New Login for SQL Server

The following steps below refer to Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.

Launch and log in to SQL Server Management Studio. From the Object Explorer, expand the Security folder. Right-click on Logins and choose New Login.

On the General page, enter the login name. This selection refers to Windows authentication; else choose SQL Server authentication. Optionally, you can define the default database and language.

Go to the Server Roles page and grant the server-wide security privileges to the user. Of course, this will depend on the target user roles and responsibilities.

We’ll take these as default values on the User Mapping and Securables page.

The values for the Status page are as below. Click OK to activate and save the changes.
