SCWB_NOTE_PREP_AND_OBS_NOTE_RST fails with “Cannot lock note”

While performing SPAU activities using the ‘Prepare Notes’ option, the activity triggers the job SCWB_NOTE_PREP_AND_OBS_NOTE_RST. However, upon checking in transaction code SM37, the job has failed with the error message ‘Cannot lock note [note number]

Solution

As stated in SAP Note 3109623 – SCWB_NOTE_PREP_AND_OBS_NOTE_RST fails with “Cannot lock note”, you can follow the steps below,

• Access SCC4 Transaction:
  • Open the SCC4 transaction.
  • Select the client where you are currently running the job.
• Adjust Settings:
  • Ensure the following settings are selected:
    • Changes and Transports for Client-Specific Objects: Set it to “Automatic Recording of Changes.”
    • Cross-Client Object Changes: Choose “Changes Allowed to Repository and Cross-Client Customizing.”
• Re-run the Job:
  • Go back to the SPAU transaction.
  • Click the “Prepare Notes” button.
  • Run the job again.
• User Check:
  • If, after following these steps, you still encounter the same error, verify that the user running the job is different from the standard SAP user DDIC.
