
In Windows XP, you can display or hide the icons in the Notification Area which sit next to your Taskbar.

Place your mouse onto Taskbar. Right click your mouse and select Properties.
Under Notification Area, you can tick the Hide inactive icons box. The function will hide any icons which are not recently clicks.

If you want to organize the icons manually, you can go for Customize. Here, you can choose the icons and define the behavior. You can to Hide when inactive, Always hide or Always Show.

Click OK when done or if you are not satisfied, just click Restore Defaults as per Windows default settings.
