How to Perform HANA Database Restore

In our previous article, we have share on how do we perform the full SAP HANA database backup onto disk. Now in this article, we are going to perform the restoration of HANA database from the disk.

Steps

1. Launch the SAP HANA Studio and login to the SYSTEMDB@[SID].

2. Once logged in, right click on the SYSTEMDB@[SID] and choose Backup and Recovery > Recover Tenant Database.

3. Specify the tenant database.

4. Specify the recovery type. In this example, we are choosing the option of “Recover the database to a specific data backup”.

5. Specify the backup location. Choose whether you want to select a backup from a backup catalog or enter the name and the path of a backup in the next step. We will be selecting “Recover without the backup catalog” since we are going to restore from the disk location.

6. Specify the backup to be recovered. Choose “File” from the destination type. Define the destination of the data backup that you want to use to recover the database. You can leave the Backup Prefix value as default.

7. You can just click on Next since all the options here are been grey out.

8. Review the recovery settings and choose “Finish” to start the recovery. You can still modify the recovery settings by choosing “Back”.

9. The recovery is running. This will take some time depending on your database size.

10. The recovery execution summary shows that it’s completed. Close and you can proceed with the post HANA database recovery activities.
